In most cases the body of knowledge will concern some delimited field of human interest or endeavour (for example, hydrogeology , logology , ichthyology , phytosociology , or myrmecology ), while a “universal” encyclopedia can be referred to as a compendium of all human knowledge. It could also be referred to as a tome .

Kids sit at desks, are told what to do and what not to do. They are given facts and ideas to learn and memorize. Obedience is rewarded, deviance or non traditional ways of approaching things are thwarted. Emphasis on testing as the be-all-end-all goal means that seemingly superfluous areas – art, drama, music, play are rmoved to give more time to learn the things that will be on the test. A friend I was travelling with about 10 years ago accused me of not being very good at organising things so I bought a notebook to capture my thoughts. First one bought in Istanbul (fell apart).
Started making lists. Then when lists get long then need prioritising. If I thought it AND decided to write it, it must be important enough to at least make a note of. I became interested in “productivity”. 43 folders and Tim Ferriss were too online sites I came across that talked about this kind of stuff.
